I had carpal tunnel when I was in my 20s because I worked with my hands a lot. I wore splints on my wrists for years before I finally had to have surgery on both wrists. I haven't had any trouble since then except for a little trouble gripping things as hard as I did before. I understand this is a common problem after surgery. Has anyone else had this experience?

I try to take a 20 minute break every 2 hours that I am on the computer. I used torun into problems before I didi this, but now I find that everything is fine. Not only is taking these breaks good for my hands, it's also great for my eyes.

I am a WAHM and on the computer a lot. I haven't had any issues with carpal tunnel lately but I did have pregnancy related carpal tunnel. Certainly you are at higher risk if you are on the computer a lot. I try to take lots of little mini breaks to get up and stretch and give my hands a break.

There are times being a WAHP that I will take random breaks and I have always tried for at least 5mins/per hour but some days depending on the weather its worse. I do not have "it" yet but I do feel like it.

There is no specific number of strokes or even hours spent typing to watch for. Unfortunately, this will vary from person to person depending on a number of factors. If you aren't sure that you are holding your hands in the proper position (which is best for not causing stress on the joints and nerves) it might be a good idea to take a keyboarding class at the local adult ed or college. Also, make sure to take frequent breaks. I now work for 50 minutes and then take ten minutes off and I've found it helps immensely with how I feel.

Are people who work online typing all day at risk for carpal tunnel syndrome? Has there been any proof that a certain amount of keystrokes daily can contribute to carpal tunnel or are there other types of movements that cause the disease?
