Colon exams are one of those things that men and women should get when they reach the age of 50 regardless of medical history. If caught early enough, colon cancer can be treated with great success.

I have had to have several, and really it isn't that bad. And, if you prepare for the prep (that sounds strange) even that isn't bad. You go on a semi liquid diet for a couple of days then a clear liquid diet for like 24 hours, and then there isn't much left in you.
The sedation makes it easy and quick. You just have to expel some gas aftwards. I call it my nap and fart test. My husband hates that!! LOL!!

It is better to catch it early, so an early examination is best. The hardest part is the preparation for the examination but the results can make you breathe easier.

My husband didn't want this done either but I nagged and nagged until he finally went. At least it's a load off your mind if it's all negative as his was and if not, then you know that treatment is available.

Go and have it done, especially if your doctor wanted it done. Like I said, the only thing that is really bad is the taste of the laxative and the diarrhea that follows. The actual exam is a piece of cake.

Since patients are sedated during the procedure, it really isn't that bad. The worst part is taking the laxative the day before. Taking about having the runs. Yikes!

The best thing anyone can do is to have the rectal exams and colonoscopies as the doctor suggests. This is particularly important if you have a history of rectal cancer or other issues. Yes, it's embarrassing and yes, it's uncomfortable. But believe me, it's a lot more uncomfortable to deal with a colostomy bag for the rest of your life.
