I do not see how it can not help. If women would do their self exams once a month that would help in that they know what is usually there and what isn't.  I do mine once a month and have it marked on my calendar.

If you mean specific tests that test whether you have breast cancer or not, then forget it! If you are palpating yourself for hard surfaces or initial signs of breast cancer then you should definitely continue!

I am not sure that all exams done on your own would work (for say a tiny spot that could be missed), but many could. And what does it hurt if you can find it earlier than a doctor? Most ladies I know only visit their doctor once a year, if that.

I saw it too, even as far as saying the mammograms are not needed yearly for women over a certain age.  I say Hogwash!  I do breast exams each and every month.  I also go for a mammogram every year.  I'm not going to stop.

Recently there was a news story that said self breast exams don't really help or work.  I think it's crazy.  Do you do self breast exams?  I do every month.  I usually do it in the shower.
