A friend of mine from childhood just had a double masectomy. She was not diagnosed with breast cancer but she was tested and they found the gene for breast cancer in her blood. Her mother and every female member of her mother's family developed breast cancer at some point in their lives. She has 4 small children so she decided to go ahead and have a masectomy and I believe lymph nodes removed while she was young and healthy to hopefully avoid the disease. Is that a decision that you could make? I think I would have a really hard time with that.
