Your post have been helpful to me as well, medtech, as I am in menopause now. However, I have lactose intolerance and I also don't like sardines so I don't talke them. Would multi vitamin tablets or supplements do as well?

I agree with Medtech, you need to do preventative things so this doe not happen to you. You need 800 to 1200 mg of calcium each day. That is 4 to 5 servings of calcium rich foods such as milk, cheese, yogurt, and even sardines. You need to do weight bearing exercise such as walking.

Take care of your bones now. Get plenty of vitamin D and calcium by taking a supplement and eating well. Get regular exercise so the muscles strengthen the framework. Avoid drinking a lot of alchohol as it can leach the calcium out of your bones over time. Keep up with regular exams, especially after menopause. Avoid hormone replacement therapy.

My grandmother had a severe case, so I know this is something that runs in my family. What are some things that I can do to lessen my chances of this affecting me as I get older?
