Thanks everyone, that is what I was thinking.  But it always helps to hear it from someone else!  Tanya, I am glad your mom helped you when you needed it.  I want to help keep my daughter safe, happy and healthy.  Sounds like your mom did, too.

When I was a teenager my mom said the same thing to me and when I got into a serious enough relationship I was responsible enough to ask her. It was scary but she did what she promised and I didn't get pregnant.

You protect her… simple as that!  It's not going to make her want to go out and do it more, it's going to protect her from having a baby.  You also need to make sure to tell her to still use condoms – STD's.

Contrary to popular belief putting young women on birth control does not make them more apt to be promiscuous. The best thing you can do for your daughter though is to have open honest conversations with her about sex and consequences. If she feels she is ready for birth control go for it.

I don't think my daughter is active at this time, but I want to protect her.  If I offered to put her on birth control, would I be encouraging the wrong behavior?  I would feel terrible if I didn't help her get what she needs, and then have her get pregnant.  But, what is right?
