It is really something that is quite ambiguous. It could take a couple of years in some people to many years in others. It varies person to person how long the medication will have a bad side effect on you. Maybe surgery on your partner is an option?

I was on birth control for eleven years before coming off of it to get pregnant with my twins. I didn't have any problems being on it that long. I don't know about all the new ones that are out though.

I've been on birth control for 11 years now. I am currently thinking of getting an IUD implanted instead of staying on the pill. Has anyone else done this? Are there any drawbacks to the new type of IUDs?

I've been on birth control for a long time too. I would think that more women would be these days. I know they are prescribing it younger and younger now. There are so many types of birth cntrol pills, some you can have your period every 3 months.
Check it out with your doctor.

I was on birth control for over ten years before coming off to conceive my daughter and I never had any problems. My OB at the time actually recommended staying on them to keep hormones in check. It's worth asking your doctor about but I am pretty sure it's fine.

I would consider having your tubes tied as well. If you are sure you are not going to have anymore children then go for it. I hated dealing with the pills. Talk to your doctor.

Natasha, I think you're doing the right thing by going to your doctor and asking what he/she thinks. When it comes to medications and your body, it's always good to get a professional opinion.

I don't smoke and never have. My doctor hasn't said anything to be about going off the pill and it's been over 10 years. It's been about 13 years since I had my daughter. I better ask the doctor at my appointment in October.

I stayed on the pill for about 10 years straight. As long as you don't smoke and your doctor doesn't find any health reason why you shouldn't be on it I don't see why you would have to stop taking it anytime soon.

The only problem with getting my tubes tied is then I can't control my period. Right now I can skip a month if I so choose, by starting the next month of pills earlier. I also love knowing exactly when it's coming.

As long as you don't have any hormonal issues when you get your annual exams, I am sure you can stay on birth control as long as you please. However, have you ever thought about getting your tubes tied? There have been many advances now that have made the procedure minimally invasive. I have a cousin who had it done and she travled via train the same night.

I've been on birth controll (the pill) for many years. I'm pretty sure I'm done having kids, but I don't want to have the surgery to prevent it. How long can you be on birth control before it might do something to you?
I also love knowing exactly when my period is coming.
