I kind of thought they were different names for the same thing, but mediluck you could be right about there being a difference.  Either way, it is a serious disease and should never be considered fashionable.  I have known people who are bipolar, and it is tough for them.  The medications can have side effects, and not taking the medications can make their life horrible.  Not to mention the other people in their lives.

I am not quite sure of the following but here is goes: with bipolar you have manic episodes as well as depressive episodes. Hence the 'bi' in the name. These occur in less rapid transitions than with manic depression. You might want to google this though.

What is the difference between Bi Polar and manic depression or are they the same? I have heard that so many celebrities have Bi Polar that it sounds like the next fashionable disease and I wondered what the symptoms are.
