Being forgetful is something I am trying to monitor in myself and something I am really trying to avoid, because Alzheimer's runs in the family. Are there vitamins that help prevent it. I try to keep my mind active.

LOL! I think everyone forgets what they are doing once in a while, no matter what their age. You have to watch when people forget things often. Or, if it is important things that keep slipping their minds. You really do notice when it starts happening.

I'm 62 but I don't think I'm getting dementia although I do sometimes wander through to the bedroom then forget why I went there or what I wanted to get!

I am only 43 and this sounds like something I would do. Stress can cause forgetfulness but if it is not something that she does all the time then I wouldn't worry too much about it.

She is 65 and widowed but she doesn't appear to be stressed and does play bridge, crib and darts regularly so this helps keep her brain active.

This could be a sign of stress and just a sign of old age. Tell your friend to get more rest and try to do more things like cross word puzzles or any activity that requires analytical reasoning to strenghten her memory.

Is this always a sign of dementia? My friend recently forgot where she had put the frozen prawns she took out of the freezer then found them in a bottom drawer along with her tea towels.
