Don't I know it! I jog a lot out of doors and the pollen has really thrown me for a loop lately. I've been using Clairitin because it works better for me. I guess everyone is different but the Allergra did nothing for me. I, too, use the prescription nasal spray to help but it's not doing anything right now.

I live in the UK and I didn't develop hayfever until I was in my 30s and living in Scotland. My doctor prescribes what he uses himself, cetirizine tablets and they work for me.

Allergies just kicked my butt this weekend. The Allegra and the Flonase didn't do a thing for me so I had to resort to the old over-the-counter stuff that always works: Benadryl. Zzzzzzzz

From what I can tell so far, its all outdoor allergies for me and has nothing to do with pets (unless that happens at some point and surprises me). We have pets, cats and dogs, no issues there, but the pollen outside is just nuts. Its almost like even trying to hibernate in my home during the time pollen falls is not nearly enough – and the kicker? I work from home.

I feel your pain. I live in the same state and the Dogwoods are kicking my rear. I have been using a nasal spray as well as Sudafed 12hr and Zyrtec. If you will take the time to fill in the forms then you can get the Sudafed you need at Walmart. You just have to fill in the forms and you can only buy so much per week or month or somethning like that.

I am really thinking of getting in and talking to my doc about this, right now just the thought of going outside makes me frumpy as I know once I get out there the pollen is going to come attack me.

As a severe, long time allergy sufferer, I can sympathize with some of you and answer a couple of questions posed here. One, yes, you can develop an allergy at any age. My mother never had allergies until she was in her late 40s. Two, medications will have different effects on each person. Partly this will depend on the type of allergy. For example, Zyrtec works better for year round allergies, such as dust and pet dander, while Claritin is better for outdoor allergies like hayfever.
If you're allergy medication isn't working, try another or talk to your doctor. Someteims they can come up with a combination that will be more effective. I have terrible allergies, year round, and it isn't easy to deal with, that's for sure.

Tell me about it. I've started on my daily dose of Allegra and spray my nose with Flonase on a regular basis. I normally hate taking drugs but they are lifesavers during allergy season.

I have had allergies since I was 10 years old. But, I had had some attacks already and it hasn't really warmed up yet, so I'm thinking this is going to be a bad season.
My brother, however, really has never been allergic to anything. But the last couple of years, even he has been having issues in the Spring. So, I think that even as adults something could trigger an allergy to raise it's head.

I have never been diagnosed with allergies, but I know I have them. I actually had a slight attack last week that almost left me on the couch for the remainder of the day. What gives? Do we grow into allergies as adults if never bothered by them as kids?

I know it's terrible already. I suffer from year round allergies (pet allergies). I use Claritin D every morning and then throughout the day if I am bothered with sinus pressure or allergies I take Advil Cold and Sinus. That usually knocks it right out of me.

I have to use Zyrtec because the others just don't work for me. I also use Flonase and have pretty good success with the combo. My sinuses act up most of the time in the spring even though I use those though.

My personal favorite is Allegra. I think people disregard it now in favor of Zyrtec and Claritan, but I really like Allegra the best. It works well for me and I have no side effects from it. Also, have you tried Singulair? I haven't used it myself, but I have friends who are happy with it.

Arkansas and Oklahoma are both having some major allergen activity. I know Ft. Smith and Poteau have already had write ups in the newpapers. I usually take Sudafed to prevent the symptoms as much as possible however with the current regulations in effect I would much rather find another medication that works as well. Zyrtec helps, to an extent but I'm not sure what others to try. The Sudafed PE and Claritin do not work at all I do know that. What do you guys recommend?
