Well this might help explain why I had heartburn so bad when I was pregnant because as soon as I found out that I was I cut out all caffeine immediately.

This is something I never have heard of. I wonder why it affects the flap on the esophagus? Do you have anymore information about this? Or possibly a link?

I had never heard this before. I have heard that caffeine can aggravate acid reflux. Does the acid reflux that occurs from quitting caffeine suddenly become a chronic condition or does it go away after a while?

Ouch! I love coffee but I didn't know if I were to stop caffeine it would affect me this way. I have enough heartburn anyway without adding to the cause. I also know about weaning myself off of caffeine. I've done it before and unfortunately, started it up again.

I knew that quitting or cutting down on caffeine could cause headaches but I did not know it could cause acid reflux. Fortunately, I have no plans to cut down on my caffeine because I need it so much!

I've never heard of that either. Of course caffiene is not only in soda, its in chocolate and other products too. I'm going to ask my doctor about this one. I would think that not srinking or eating something wouldn't cause acid reflux, it would make things better.

Natasha, quitting caffeine does not mean quitting soda. There is plenty of soda that does not contain caffeine. And I don't mean those who drink only a little caffeine – it's more those who are coffee dependent and drink a lot of caffeinated drinks each day. In this case, yes, quitting caffeine suddenly, cold turkey, can cause acid reflux to develop.

That is something that I did not know. I know sometimes when I drink soda, I get bad heartburn. I didn't think that if I quit drinking it I would get it worse. That sounds very odd to me.
